How can we learn to be in alignment with the Universe… to be in the flow of Life?
It is so much easier to flow with Life and allow Life to through you…. rather than create resistance and barriers. And trust me, I’m speaking from personal experience so this is not a lecture, or musing based on research and theory. I know the difference; I know how it feels to be on either side of the coin.
We can see so much pain and suffering in our own lives and around the world. People are exhausted by this constant whack-a-mole of issues popping up everywhere. The constant ups and downs in the economy and huge uncertainty about our future. The costs of living are going up…people are getting sick and tired - I know I do - of just hearing this phrase: the cost of living,.. the cost of living keeps going up…But that’s true, and that’s what hits us so hard at many levels, with stress as a dominant factor. COVID of course, was a monumental hit…and so it goes.
As you may know – if you follow my podcast and blog – I strongly believe in using our intuition and guidance from … well, our guides, whoever they may be in Spirit, ask them questions and ask for help. And you don’t even need to go into a deep meditative state to get the answer. I do meditate and promote daily meditation practice for many reasons; but once again, I would like to point out that it’s not the only avenue for communicating with your spirit guidance.
How do I know if the answer came from my guidance or from my ego? - you may ask. Well, there are two key indicators. Firstly, it makes sense and is positive; and secondly, it may surprise you, which means that it definitely didn’t come from your ego.
For example, such was the insight I received some time ago about karma, free will and destiny when I asked my guidance to explain and resolve the paradox of free will and destiny I had been grappling with for many years. I mean, you have either free will or destiny, you can’t have both at the same time, as they are mutually exclusive, right? Wrong! The paradox is only superficial, and I received the definition of each of these three concepts – karma, free will and destiny, and the relationship between them.
When I wrote it down as it came through and then read it back to myself, I was in awe. It was elegant, crystal clear and surprising. It definitely didn’t come from my conscious mind. (You will find it in my post Karma, Free Will & Destiny).
Few days ago, as I was thinking about what’s going on in the world, and also about some issues in my personal life, I asked the Universe, the Spirit, my Guides (whoever was available and listening at that time), I just asked – what is the purpose of suffering?
The answer came instantly. As soon as the question mark in my thought closed off the sentence – BOOM. There it was: Suffering is a choice.
Suffering is a choice.
Wow. I didn’t expect that. Talking about surprising! How about shocking… I leaned back in my chair and took a deep breath in trying to quiet down my ego as it started screaming and kicking – what do you mean it’s a choice? I don’t choose suffering!
Hang on a second, I said to my ego jumping up and down. This has to be true. At some level. And to see this truth we need to look at suffering from a completely different angle.
Suffering is a state of mind. Some people will suffer greatly when bad weather cancels in the last minute their camping plans. A child will be inconsolable for eternity (which is several minutes for the child) when their favourite toy is broken or taken away from them. Conversely, many people who experience hardship or serious health issues remain positive and in good spirit, taking in and accepting what comes.
This means that the state of suffering is linked to the meaning we give to the circumstance we are facing in life. And since we can control the meaning we assign to things and situations, the Spirit is right: suffering IS a choice.
When we align ourselves with the highest truth that comes from the Spirit, from the Universal Intelligence through our heart, we can’t go wrong. When we trust the flow of life – which is something many philosophers and spiritual teachers talk about – and allow it to flow through us…magic happens.
When you can relax into your being and let go…it’s like leaning back in your favourite armchair with a sigh of relief, knowing that all is well. This is the magic ingredient in the manifestation process – to let go of control and trust that the Universe will deliver what’s best for you.
This principle applies to assigning meanings to things and situations. Does a broken toy create suffering, or perhaps it tells us that it was time for this toy to die as it was old and worn out…and buy a new one. Can we trust the Universe that the money for a new toy will come, even though we don’t have it right now?..
This is the Art of Being. You can choose stress and suffering or you can choose peaceful joy and relax.
And finally, if you choose not to believe that there is an Intelligence far greater than you that loves you unconditionally, and is always there to help you and guide you; and instead, you choose to rely on your own devices driven by the ego - you deprive yourself of the greatest gift you are given for this and every incarnation: the help and guidance from this Intelligence waiting to support you on your Life’s journey. All you need to do is ask.
I have recently experienced several instant manifestations of my wishes that were beyond, over and above my expectations, after finding this peaceful space inside me I was able to sink into… and simply let go with trust that the Universe will deliver.
The source that facilitated and continues to facilitate this amazing state of being is a poem by Louise Hay, many of you may know.
I don’t recall its title, so I simply call it My Prayer as that’s what it feels like. It’s not only beautiful but also imbued with this incredible sense of peace that connects with you at the deepest level.
Here it is:
In the infinity of Life where I am
All is perfect, whole and complete
I believe in a Power far greater than I am
That flows through me every moment of every day
I open myself to the wisdom within
Knowing that there is only One Intelligence
In this Universe
Out of this One Intelligence come all the answers
All the solutions, all the healings, all the new creations
I trust this Power and Intelligence
Knowing that whatever I need to know
Is revealed to me
And that whatever I need comes to me
In the right time, space and sequence
All is well in my world
The closing line encapsulates the spirit of this poem. It became my daily mantra - an incredibly powerful energy dissolving all doubt.
